Iceland Air is the aierline which is well-known in their use of Boeing 737-400 at Faro Airport. However, this airline was centrally situated at Reykjavik Airport of Iceland headquarter. Iceland Air Airlines was created oin 1937 at Akureyri and start their operation at the folloing year. Unfortunately in 1939, this airline suffered an accident of their Waco YKS-7. This accident finally made this airline closed and moved to Reykjavik.
The airlines was officially launched in 1940 and named as Flugfelag Islands. Another Waco Yks-7 aircraft added in this new airline. Previously, the same name with unrelated relation had already stayed at Reykjavik between 1928-1931. Finally, for the International purposes, the name of Iceland Airways was taken.
The aircrafts were added in 1940s with reinforcements of Beechcraft Model 18 in 1942, two de Havilland Dragon Rapide comes after this, and also Consolidated PBY Catalina (US made aircraft). By using thos reinforcements, Icland Air Airlines started their initial flight to Atlantic Ocean which was started from Reykjavik to Largs in Scotland with only 4 pessengers and 4 cabin crews (include the pilot). Other initial flights to Europe country using Scottish Airlines aircraft (B-24 Liberator) was released in 1946. At that time the destinations are to Prestwick Airport, Scotland and Copenhagen, Denmark.
At the same year, this compony improve their quality of comfort and performance of their domestic flight services by introducing Douglas DC-3 Dakota to equipped their operation. The 6 similiar aircrafts were bought to equipped their service until 1972. The intersting fact here was the old Douglas DC-3 was still used until 2011. Until the end of 1960s this company was focused to compete Loftleidr, an Iceland airline which was founded in 1944. That was why they tend to focus their local flight first. When finally Loftleidr punched away from domestic market, they started to focus on their International flights.
Besides improving their quality, routes and the amount of aircrafts which are used for main operation, this aircraft finally made a possibility to Iceland citizen to get cheap Iceland Air Airlines tickets. In order to get Iceland Air Airlines low airfare, the customers only need to access and buy it online. Sometimes, American Airlines created a discount prices for a certain celebration like Christmas Eve and many more. It is also happen for doing Iceland Air Airlines booking which simply done through online. The passenger should firstly choose their route, type of flights (to get a cheaper price), and the date they will take off.
The company is familiar and become more popular for their stability. If you have a plan to travel around the world, this airlines will be your good answer to take. Besides they have a standard service, procedures, and experienced team, they do provide worldwide routes which possibly carry you go around the world. For additional, you can access to buy cheap Iceland Air tickets by visiting their official website or buying it through legal tickets seller online which are legally cooperated with Iceland Air Airlines.

Very disappointed in the food and movies offered on Icelandair. We flew on four Icelandair flights during the past two weeks. Two legs of our flights (Portland to Reykjavik, Reykjavik to Paris CDG) were in Economy-Comfort Class. The other two (Zurich to Reykjavik, Reykjavik to Portland) were in Economy Class. Icelandair does not offer any complimentary small packages of crackers, peanuts, pretzels, etc, they only offer complimentary soft drinks in small cups (not whole beverage cans). The food Icelandair offers on board is limited and extremely expensive (compared to what other airlines, like Alaska or Delta, charge on US flights). The food service on Icelandair Economy-Comfort isn't much better, same limited menu, albeit free of charge. As to the choice of on board movies, we ran out of movies to watch, also some of the movies listed were way outdated and we had seen them before.

I flew Icelandair in a recent trip to Europe. Tickets are considerably less expensive than others from the West Coast to Europe. Yes, you have to stop in Iceland but the great Stopover program makes it an extended holiday. Flights were on time. Service was basic but enough with a good selection of paid dishes. Seats are not that bad. The selection of the free in-flight system was very good and they have reasonably priced internet service since you board the plane. In summary, I could not find any faults and I will gladly use it again.

Seattle to Keflavík in Business Class on a Boeing 757-200. Icelandair's aging aircraft are overdue for retirement. The interiors look their age, although the Saga Class cabin and bathroom were clean on this flight. The seats are wide and comfortable, but they aren't flatbed. Service was efficient but cold. Not the slightest hint of a smile throughout the flight from the matronly woman serving us. Upon landing in Keflavík, we were bundled into a bus and transported to the terminal. Saga Class passengers get no priority or comfort despite paying a premium: we were herded together with the rest until the bus overflowed. The best that can be said of Icelandair is, they don't lose your baggage

Keflavík to Seattle in a 757-200 in Saga Class, which is Icelandair's premium product. The brand new Saga Class lounge at Keflavík is spacious and comfortable. However, Icelandair dropped the ball on the showers facility: there is no cleaning whatsoever between showers. You enter into the mess left behind by the person who showered before you. My wife and I had to skip showering in the lounge. What in the world is Icelandair thinking? The flight itself was very pleasant. The flight attendants this time were extremely courteous and efficient, the food served excellent.

Manchester to Toronto via Reykjavik. Do not waste your money paying for Economy Comfort. It is advertised as having more leg room but in fact you get an economy seat. The only difference is the middle seat in a row of 3 is empty. Legroom is cramped and food offered is basic cheap airline snacks. We paid several hundred pounds extra for Economy Comfort and I feel it is a complete rip off.

Washington to Munich via Keflavik. In the past we have used Icelandair to fly to Luxembourg and Germany. We enjoyed our experiences and recommended the carrier to family and friends. We recently returned to Germany for a visit after 20 years. We decided to use Icelandair because of the price. We traveled to Munich on October 6 and returned to Dulles on October 13. Both flights were an unpleasant experience. Both flights were late causing us to rush through customs and the terminal in Iceland to make our connecting flights. The process was stressful. There was no help from the personnel.

Toronto to Copenhagen via Keflavik. Great service and food. Friendly staff and a bottle of water to every passenger upon embarking the plane. That sort if service is virtually unheard of in our times. I have flown with many airlines and Icelandair is one of the best companies I've flown with

Paris CDG to Newark via Keflavik. I appreciated the very relaxed crew and the comfortable seat - I had the chance to get the first row at no extra cost. But for the price paid one could have expected a little more than just a glass of water and a cup of tea on an intercontinental flight.

Flew Icelandair from Stockholm to Reykjavik. Aside from the cost, would give a negative review if possible. Many, many open seats and when asked if I could move out of a packed row into an empty row, the steward looked around, looked down her nose at me, and said, "yeah, no". International flight and the only complimentary options are tea, coffee, soda and water. Entertainment options old and mostly outdated. You get what you pay for, especially the cheap service and attitude from the staff. Save yourself the frustration and fly anybody else.

Flew from Washington DC to Amsterdam via Keflavik. This was the first time I have flown with Icelandair. The economy seats were wider compared to the other airlines I have flown before. The crew service was not bad. The flights were on time. The overall experience was good and is worth the fare. Only suggestion I have for them is to provide complementry food, especially on flights over 5 hours.

Horrible custmer service!!! For our 6.5 hour flight home from Europe I was seated next to an extremely obese lady who literally took up half of my seat as well, and my leg was dripping with sweat off of her leg. They were lucky I am of tiny stature, there is no way even a normal sized person would have fit in my half of a seat. As the plane was full, we talked to the sterwardess about issuing a refund for my long uncomfortable trip home, who assured us their customer service was fantastic and they would definately do something about it... Apparently that was just to keep us quiet the rest of the trip, because phone call after phone call they said they were still looking into the matter, and finally today, nearly 6 months after the trip the email saying it is not their fault and will not be doing anything.

Iceland Air is my new favorite airline.
I've put my mother on Iceland Air flights out of Logan for a few years, because it's the cheapest way to get to Scotland, usually. My mother travels there (home) frequently. Recently, I booked a trip to Scotland myself, and once again Iceland Air was the cheapest way to get to Glasgow.
The flight is 4.5 hours to Iceland, a layover, then 1.5 hours to Glasgow. They also connect to many cities in Europe, including Paris, London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, etc. The airline service is good, like other European carriers. No complaints whatsoever.
Here is the GREAT thing: if you book direct on Icelandair.com, you can add a layover in Iceland up to 7 days, for no extra charge.
So, my 10 day trip to Scotland, turned into 7 in Scotland, and 2 in Reykjavik. It's wonderful there. I'm going to France in May. Once again, Icelandair was the cheapest way to go, and once again I'm adding a layover.

Icelandair used to be a sort of idiosyncratic airline in that it mostly seemed normal, but then there were just weird things that ran counter to expectations. This is still the case, but they've toned down the jarring stuff (smelly fish for meals, the cocktail-party effect of everybody on board seeming to know each other), renovated their planes (tv screens!) and kept prices down.
Connecting through Keflavik is a little strange, since you are doing it in what feels like the middle of the night your time, morning Iceland time, but in the winter, there's no difference that you can tell.
Their presence at destinations can be a little obscure. In Stockholm, they're more or less handled by SAS for example, and when i flew them to Heathrow, they were in a bit of an obscure corner of the airport.
But still, cheap tickets to Europe and free stay-overs in Iceland*, what's not to like?
*one of these days i'll leave the airport

Traveled out of Boston on the Sunday that Hurricane Irene was supposed to come through. First flight int he afternoon was cancelled and booked on a later flight. We didn't get out until almost 1 a.m., about 11 hours behind schedule. But the airline was great about it, re-booked us on new flights, made sure we got to Europe. Ours was one of only a handful of flights that got out of Boston that night.
On the way back, they were nice enough to rebook us to give us a longer layover in Iceland so we could check out Reykjavik. All for no charge.
The flights themselves were great. The small HD TVs in each seat offer a ton of great entertainment options, including music, TV shows and movies. The food was good too, but it's not free.

What a great airline! I wish all domestic airlines were as nice and clean as this one. Our trip to Iceland in January 201 was seamless. No issues, the staff an flight attendants were polite and helpful. The seats were rather comfy....and we were sitting in economy so I could only imagine what Saga class is like.
I just wish the airfare was a little cheaper because we would be heading back to visit again.

was restless in frigid Boston and thought...i have to see an aurora borealis! so emailed a friend in Reykjavík then booked a flight online. left logan around 9pm and arrived keflavic after a comfy 5hour movie and nap. easy and convenient.
really wanted sea, sand & sun but the Blue Lagoon`s geothermal seawater will more than do. missed reindeer the last time tho will likely have some christmas eve. also smoked puffin (still avoiding Hákarl aka rotten shark meat). Gleileg Jól!

Unbelievable! So, I wanted to change my return flight by a week. I understand that there is fee associated with it - lets say $200-$220, however they want me to pay $780 for only changing the date on my return flight....REALLY!? Besides, my return flight does not happen until two months (August 25) from now, which means I am sure they can sell my seat with no problem since it is with a short layover and great travel times.
Really! $780 for changing a date...WOW! Where is the customer service? Where is the loyalty or building loyalty with customer????

Icelandair is my absolute favorite airline to travel with. They are always organized, polite, on time, and the planes are clean and come with free Icelandic water, blankets and built in televisions (I recommend checking out some of the subtitled Icelandic fare). The landings have always been smooth which I appreciate. When there is turbulence they let you know right away. The food cart comes several times during a long flight and you can always get free coffee (much stronger than what we have in the US) and water. I browse their Saga Store catalogs but I haven't purchased much. I love stopping over in Iceland. That airport is tremendous. I don't recommend a long lay-over at the airport though (we once had one that was 8 hours overnight- eep) but for 1-2 hours it's great. Compared to other airlines no one can top this one. Definitely look into using them if you're going overseas.

Booked a flight for a business trip. Unfortunatly is a Mechanics strike so my flight was cancelled, so like most people would do I called them but what do ya know they had SHUT DOWN THE AMERICAN OFFICE/NUMBER! Not even an attempt at customer service. If this is how they are going to treat customers they should just close their doors now. The only good thing is that I finally got rebooked just before I had to leave for the airport. My reccomendation is to never fly with Icelandair. Ever.

These guys really impressed me yesterday. Spending a great deal of time on airplanes and having to deal with a number of airlines most of which are horrible I am a terrible cynic when it comes to this industry. Yesterday I was bumped off my flight from London to Boston via Iceland due to over capacity on my flight. While most airlines will give you some crappy voucher which gives you the privilege of flying their lousy airline after bumping you or cancelling a flight; these guys re-booked me into business class on another airline getting me into Boston within 5 minutes of my original schedule. Just when I thought customer service in the airline industry was a thing of the past these folks surprised the heck out of me.

Flew them last week and they aren't bad. Flight was short, so I didn't expect much. Airplane was nice and the flight attendants were extremely nice. Food and alcohol available for a cost. If I go back to Iceland, I'd defiantly use them again. Enjoy that each seat has an Icelandic word with a definition. Also thought it was clever that each vessel is named after a volcano

If you want to go to Iceland and want to leave from Logan, Icelandair is the way to do it. The airline is like the Icelandic people, quiet, unassuming but very, very efficient and pragmatic.
Icelandair goes to a lot of places besides just Reykjavik, it serves a lot of Europe and even places like Anchorage but flights frequently end up in Reykjavik sooner or later.
The flight to Reykjavik actually lands in Keflavik Airport which is a bit south of the capital but an easy bus trip to the city. Flying can suck and being on any plane for five or six hours with some screaming kid behind you can be tough but Icelandair is definitely the best airline I have been on.
They employees are polite, useful but not exactly friendly. The usual stoic and reserved Icelandic personality, they concentrate on getting things done and not frivolous and foolish prattle and cute gestures.
You get a little bottle of water as you board the plane and other crappy and pretty typical airline food and booze is available. Never a good idea to eat on a plane. Plenty of better food at the airports.
Each seat has a nice little screen to watch stupid TV shows or better yet you can keep track of the flight's progress. Airspeed, altitude, direction and location is always fun to watch and the maps are entertaining to scroll through.
Everything about the airline is so functional, and good package deals and prices can be found with a bit of effort.
Reykjavik is a cool and unique city with lots of very cool things and Icelandair is the way to get there. Just make sure Eyjafjallajokull or one of it's friends aren't erupting or you just might end up staying in Iceland a bit longer than you thought.

No frills airline, so don't have unrealistic expectations. No free alcohol and has the feeling of being on a domestic flight with Spirit airlines, but if you really want to go to Iceland, this will likely be your carrier as they were the most affordable. The movies are free, but you have to pay for earbuds if you don't have your own, so I recommend bringing a pair unless you enjoy silent movies!! No free meal either, so I recommend getting a sandwich at the airport before the flight to bring with you. At the end of the day, they will get you to your destination.

Icelandair does somethings very well and completely drops the ball on others.
GOOD: The inflight experience was really great. The staff is bilingual and friendly. Inflight entertainment was excellent - even though my system was broken, they offered me an ipad.
BAD: I missed an Icelandair flight due to a connection issue on another airline. I called their contact center for help, and it was a nightmare!!! The agents struggled to find me any options, and when they finally did, they were VERY expensive. There didn't seem to have any empathy for my situation. I ended up finding another option myself online for thousands less than the agent could. So, either the agents dont want to help customers find low cost options or they dont know how to find low cost options. Either case is awful!!
Use them if you want, but just pray nothing goes wrong. If it does, you'll be on your own and you'll have to PAY!!

What a fascinating way to travel across The pond. We had a £250 each one way fare from Boston to Heathrow via Reykjavik avoiding the airlines that charge more for a one-way fare than a return. Old Boeing 757s but I felt very safe. Stewardesses as friendly as an Icelander can be (they're not known for their warmth). One free soft drink, no food but I didn't miss it. We had an eight hour layover in Iceland. Reykjavik Airport has an enclosed smoking room which is handy. We took the coach at some expense to the wonderful volcanic Blue Lagoon and bathed in the naturally heated water between our flights. Lovely and out-of-this-world method of travelling home.
Years ago in 2000, Icelandair put me in a Saga Class seat with so much more room for free (but without the additional service) even with a cheap fare when I booked a city break to Reykjavik on the return leg.
Those leftie councils and individuals were silly putting their money into Icelandic banks (a country the UK was nearly at war with in the 1960s), but Icelandair were good to me in 2000 and I've loved the experience from Boston to London Heathrow.

Ontario California to KEF. My husband and I had heard horror stories about IcelandAir. We travel a lot and have been on dozens of different carriers. We fly as inexpensively as possible seeing the flight as a necessary evil to get to our destination. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice our experience was on IcelandAir. It was a great flight. Staff was friendly and the aircraft was very clean. We tend to bring our own food on flights, but did get a breakfast sandwich. It was really bad. The only real recommendation I have is that you should definitely bring your own food.

Flew Stockholm to Toronto via Reykjavik, return. Shocked that a national carrier does not provide food on board. Only got water and orange juice. Screens were old, tried to sleep. Seats not great, did not sleep well. Hence was hungry, tired and not amused. Bag damaged. Nightmare to get a refund (I have not succeeded yet). Their email system is always down. If you don't get an automated reply via email, try bugging them by phone or FB, your email got sucked into a black hole. Person on FB replied the first time to my queries but did not after that. Hopeless service. Never flying with Icelandair again.

In order: - Delayed, then Cancelled Flight - Terrible Phone Service - Foreced to take a later flight to Iceland - Stranded in Iceland airport for 8 hours - Missed two events and not reimbursed - Was told I would be given a cab to get to my hotel at the destination airport but no one was working the Icelandair desks or kiosks when I arrived - End up having to take a $50 cab to my hotel and still have no been reimbursed for it - See more at: http://www.airlineratings.com/passenger-reviews.php#sthash.szD160iC.dpuf

I was charged double because I changed my flight from Iceland to Boston by ONE day due to sickness. Customer service is a joke. The first call is to a person, after that it is through e-mail. Very frustrating system but I am sure it is done this way to discourage complaints.
