London Heathrow to Hong Kong. Virgin advertise this as the best seats! If that's the case I would hate to be on the other flights. The plane was a new Boeing 787 and was a comfortable flight except they are the hardest most uncomfortable seats I've ever flown on. I'm 6'4" and just could not get comfortable. We fly to HK from London about twice a year but never again with this airline. It used to be via Air New Zealand but they no longer fly this route, sadly! Food wasn't that good either along with in-flight entertainment. Don't believe Virgins hype.

Disappointed with my latest Premium Economy flight from Gatwick to Orlando with Virgin Atlantic. Sat on upper deck which was shared with economy passengers. Payed a big upgrade for PE but feel short changed. Seats were comfortable. Crew service good. Was bothered by constant queue for the toilets shared with Economy passengers and the fact that I was delayed getting off the aircraft. The toilet queue was within the PE section. Nothing against Economy passengers (flown economy many times) however when paying a lot more and not getting what I paid for is wrong.

I have just returned from Las Vegas and was surprised how uncomfortable the seats in economy were. To improve customer comfort through offering a little more seat width and leg room and putting the cost of lost seats in an increase price could be easily implemented and I am sure would find customer acceptance.

We travel to Orlando on the 11:45 from Gatwick on 11th October 2016, a party of 10 adults and 1 child in a seat, another baby on laps, we paid £25 pound each seat, to book ours seats in advance, also we were first at twilight check in, where they then seated us all over the plane, even putting a mother and her two children on their own in two seats, whereas her partner was at the other end of the plane with his parents, other grandparent again in different seats. All of this which we didn't notice till the morning, as we had paid we assumed Virgin would put us in the seat we rang about and paid for- so very early next morning we had to rush to the airport to see if we could change them. We had difficulty as a number of others had booked in by then so we compromised, and came up with a do-able answer. So why do we have pay for something we don't get? On arriving at Orlando airport it more difficult to stay together so some of our party had to wait 3 hours to get though immigration.

Simply awful from start to finish. The cabin while looking great was horribly uncomfortable. The economy seats were so uncomfortable. You can feel every leg cross, table movement or rummage in the seat pocket behind you, because to save weight (and money in fuel for Virgin), there is no hard back to the chair to protect your lumbar spine from the people behind you who are also shifting uncomfortably in their seats. My partners seat bottom also broke in flight because she was shifting so uncomfortably. The TVs are tiny by today's economy standards. The 787 is a bum deal for passengers as it is as noisy as any other airliner (A380 much quieter by 10dB). The better quality air (not engine bleed fed on 787) is cancelled out by the internal noise and terrible seats. Finally the flight crew treated us like little children from the second we got on board telling us that we would only be having alcohol with food.

Seat pitch not enough considering this is long haul. Add one magazine to the seat pocket and even worse. Then person in front reclines, well forget it. I think I am Mr Average height and yet had to splay my legs out into the isle most of the time - most uncomfortable especially when the trolley crashed in to my leg. After nearly 7 hours my knees ached! When the head cushion is raised a little there is a ridge along top of the seat (shoulder height) that is uncomfortable. Felt every movement behind me from the table being moved to the guy rummaging in the seat pocket. TV screen quite small by current standards. Overall not great and for the sake of a little extra space in front and a larger screen the experience would have been much better. Not impressed Virgin.

We were looking forward to our trip to India and our first time flying with Virgin Atlantic. Sorry to say we were very disappointed. The staff were mainly helpful and pleasant and the meals adequate but our complaint was with the comfort (or lack of) regarding the Boeing 787 aircraft. Everything seemed very cramped; seating, legroom, aisles etc. And I am probably a small average. The lady in front of me had difficulty reclining her seat but after being helped to do this by the hostess, I felt that the seat was about six inches from my nose! But I think the most dangerous thing was the food tray which kept slipping and sliding over the small table. I had to keep one hand on the tray while trying to do everything else with the other. We didn't take hot drinks with our meals in case of an accident and perhaps injuring our neighbouring passenger. During our stay in India we took an internal flight from Delhi to Jodhpur with Air India.

Only issue with the Virgin flights on this and previous occasions is seating (e.g legroom and headrests) I'm 6'7' (2m) and I could only just squeeze my legs in behind the seat in front and my head and shoulders stuck up above the top of the seat back. I spent most of my time with my knees in the aisle where the stewardesses rammed them with trollies and they were a trip hazard to other passengers. The head rest at its highest was between my shoulder blades so left me with no option but to lean my head forwards to sleep. Chap in front slammed his seat back and thumped my head. Managed to force my knees down to get my feet under the seat in front but finished up playing footsie with the chap in front. Also, TV screen on flight out to US was fixed (couldn't pull base outwards) so when chap in front reclined his seat all I could see was a 1 inch high screen.

We had a great experience with Virgin Atlantic. Very friendly staff. Lots of good movies/tv/radio/games!!!
We were offered at $75 upgrade to Premium Economy. It rocked! More legroom, sweet amenity kits, good food....and lots of free drinks. The Upper Class cabin looks PIMP!
My only complaint is that it takes WAAAY too long to check in once you get to the airport (whether O'Hare or Heathrow). So just make sure you allow for PLENTY OF TIME to get yourself checked in.

Wow! All I have to say is this airline is AMAZING! I heard about how awesome it was to fly through a couple of people at work and boy were they right. Our flight to Chicago on the 21st of July was our first time, and we let the world know once we were In Chicago. We told everyone how great this airline is, and how we're sure it's going to "come up". Our flight attendant (Karlee, flight 815 on friday the 29th from Chicago to L.A.) was sooooooo nice, helpful and super sweet. Man, if every flight attendant could be like her the skies would be much more appealing to fly. Keep it up Richard, and be sure to get more girls like Karlee! We'll definitely be flying Virgin again. Thanks for the great service!

From the ticket agents to the ramp agents, to the flight staff, everyone was friendly, bright, and very caring.
Our first flight out was very empy, so everyone in economy was able to spread out and enjoy some room.
Coming back, the flight was full due to the Easter holiday, but despite the 250 people on board, we had another smooth flight with another great staff.
The food was edible---in fact, a few of the snacks were what I would call GOOD.
Who knew?

There are so many reasons why I love this airline. The biggest one happened today!! I spent 8 days in Chicago with my family and was wanting to get an earlier flight home that day. So I showed up at the airport. She said yes you can reserve a seat in the earlier flight for $35, no bad! Then I had to pay $25 for my bag, ok no big deal cause most airlines charge now:(. So she told me if I wanted to upgrade to a row with more leg room for $69 my bag is free and I get complimentary cocktails, food and movies!!!! Sign me up!!!! The flight was great,

It is a sad statement about the level of customer service in the US when you speak with agents at Virgin Atlantic and are overwhelmed with their superior level of customer service.
I was so looking forward to my London trip, my first on Virgin, and am sad and disappointed as I must cancel due to a cancer diagnosis. Hugh, Jordan and Claire have all been incredibly understanding and helpful. What other airline allows their operators to give out their extension number??!!
I will treat myself to this trip once I get through my treatment/surgery and will continue to rave about this company.

A superior airline with excellent customer service. The United and American Airlines of the world should take note, this is what flying should be like!
We had an issue with a missed flight and were able to get through on the phone (almost) straight away and were moved to a new flight with a minimal fee and minimal hassle.
I have flown Virgin to an from the UK on numerous occasions and although sometimes leg-room in coach can be tight, their personal onboard entertainment, excellent food and (complimentary) beverages and flight accessory bag make up for this nicely.
Please Virgin, extend your Chicago services throughout the year and not just the summer months! If I have to fly United one more time I'll scream!

The plane has a cool ambiance... but for some reason I felt like I was being nickle and dimed. The staff though smiling had a tone of irritability--I didn't bother asking for anything from them.
My screen/remote froze midway from my flight back and so using that was moot--it seems that there isn't too many ways you can go right especially with domestic flights--but I don't know if this would be the lesser of the evils.

WoW! I have been ON HOLD for 35 minutes. I just want to know why I can't check-in online! Their system tells me there's something wrong with my reservation....funny they didn't say anything 4 months ago when they took my $6,000! Yes, $6,000 for 4 tickets to the UK. And I get put on hold for 35 minutes? Unbelievable! I usually fly British Airways but thought I'd give Virgin a chance. I won't be making that mistake again!

OK, first off, crossing the Atlantic nowadays is an ordeal no matter who. The star rating should really range from 'utterly miserable' to 'slightly above average'. There's no 'great' anywhere to be found for the average guy. So, with the bar set, I give these guys 4 stars.
The best way to make this decent is to use something no other airline offers. VA have 'premium economy' but it's not just a bit of extra legroom, it's wider seats in a cabin away from steerage, priced higher but still affordable, and bookable with frequent flyer miles. Basically it's like domestic business class. Use this and you'll be happy, well, as much as you can be. You can choose the usual cheap seats but this is the best compromise for 10+ hours and well worth the extra $500. That said, no matter what you do, they don't nickel and dime you like the others, entertainment is good, nothing can help airline food, but at least you can sleep through it in these seats. If you can't get these, at least get the extra legroom ones which are about $150 more roundtrip. If you can't afford either, it's no worse than any other airline but with better entertainment.
Trust me. I've flown SFO-LHR dozens of times on most carriers.

Just flew LAX to LHR VS008 on 16th Oct.
Have to congratulate you guys... admittedly I was flying economy, but I have never been given such a small measly meal on a transatlantic flight before. No snacks available in the galley during the flight.
The entertainment TV and movies was pathetic too.

Here are my takes on the SFO to LHR flight via Virgin Atlantic:
- Seats were good - no complaints. Lots of leg room in the last few rows which we purposely chose. We were in our own row within the aisle as it tapers off from three seats to two seaters. It was close to the bathrooms but not too close that it starts to smell if someone decided they needed a longer bio break.
- No WiFi. Why?! I'll happily pay to be connected. I'll give it to them there are several movies with some very good selection however I can only watch so many movies until I start getting cranky and continue to be irritated and again reminded that I am unable to check some emails - especially if I've been waiting for a particular email. Wondering for 10 hours if my job offer letter came in or not is torturous.
- Bad food. They handed us a menu at the start of the flight however when mealtime came around, they only had ONE option left for our entire section: the pasta that no one ever picks. Fortunately for me I was going to choose this option as this was the only vegetarian meal offered but for everyone else this would be annoying.
- Flight attendants were good (all British crew) and the one assigned to our aisle looked like a cross between Tom Hiddleston and Jake Gyllenhaal. But at one point of the flight, the flight attendants ALL disappeared. Um, what if something happened?
- In-flight kits were handy which also included a toothbrush and toothpaste. This is good because I really don't want to be smelling others' morning breath! They also provided a pair of socks which i found useful since I wanted to take off my shoes.
Overall not a bad flight. A fair three stars.

Flew with Virgin Atlantic to get from SFO to LHR and back.
I'm normally a pretty big Virgin fan. I love how fucking mental Sir Richard Branson is. I want to live on his private island. Currently living in the UK and opted for Virgin Mobile and Virgin Broadband.
However, Virgin Atlantic is just not something I see myself ever falling in love with. Comparatively speaking, Virgin Atlantic is substantially cheaper than most other airline carriers so you can pretty much always snag a good deal. Unfortunately, it's one of those cases where the cheapness in the price also undoubtedly shows in the quality as well. Damn shame, because being a Virgin fangirl I really wanted to like this airline.
~ Staff:
Not rude... just maybe a tad bit unprofessional I think. The flight attendants were behaving like untrained Average Joe volunteers because they were constantly fast-pacing back and forth along the plane looking stressed as hell with all the requests from people. Doesn't make for a very relaxing flight when occasionally you see your flight attendant storm past you with a high-strung look on his face.
Like I said though, it wasn't as if they were rude. The staff were friendly and attentive, but I feel like they have been improperly trained or something because the way they were acting is completely unlike the "pleasant cabin crew" I'm used to experiencing from other airlines.
---
Overall, the food was mediocre, the plane was very small and cramped, and the staff were like headless chickens scurrying about. If the flight was anything more than dirt cheap, I'd probably have to give 1 star. However, like I said it's a "you get what you pay for" kind of deal. I only wish that Virgin Atlantic wouldn't have to sacrifice quality.

I am a frequent traveler. For a recent trip to London I decided to book on Virgin Atlantic and see if the service was any different (better) than American. The bottom line is that I will NEVER book on this airline again. I am warning you, this airline does not have policies and procedures that are anywhere close to as organized and easy to understand as the airlines in the U.S.
Details: I booked my flight online, chose the flights I needed, didn't even think about "non-refundable" because when I book on United or American they make it very clear if you are booking a non-refudable ticket. I ususally don't book non-refun. because my travel plans change quite often.
In this case, I tried to change my flight online on the VA website, but there was NO WAY to do this. I was FORCED TO CALL. Which meant I was on the phone on hold for 30 minutes. When I finally got through, it was a $300 charge to change ticket. What?? They said I had booked non-refun. I said, "where did it say that?". The CS person responded, "In the terms and conditions section of the ticket". Really? You mean all that little tiny writing at the bottom? There was NOTHING when I booked the ticket that alerted me I was booking non-refundable.
I then needed to move the flight AGAIN. Another 30 MINUTES ON THE PHONE! NO ONLINE CAPABILITY TO MOVE FLIGHTS. $300 CHARGE AGAIN! I said, well, what if I cancel and just use it later when I am POSITIVE that my customers won't change our meeting dates. They said, well, that would not be possible. If I cancelled, I would not recieve any credit fo the flight. HOWEVER, if I "no showed", then the ticket value would remain, and I could rebook the value of what I had paid for the nominal additional fee of $400!
The bottom line is that I would not recommend this airline because of their customer service policies, and also because it is IMPOSSIBLE to change your flight online once it is booked, even if you booked it online in the first place.

We had a very nice flight September 10th. The staff was very helpful and the chief flight attendant did her very best to accommodate Alan's dietary restrictions since the glitch in the system had not advised the caterers to put his meal on board. The food was good, though not the best we've had in Business/First/Upper, however, they had an excellent Chilean Carménère among their other offering.. It was delicious. The staff were kept quite busy assisting some of the older passengers w/ the electronica involved in seats and entertainment stations. I think they are more in demand w/ us oldsters, although I saw one younger man ask for help, and they were unfailingly gracious and helpful.
The chief flight attendant gave Alan a business card w/ contact information for Customer relations, etc and contacted them herself about his meal on the flight home. He was contacted by them and is all set. It was exemplary service recovery. The plane was comfortable, we had sufficient room and we got all our bags back at Heathrow, which, for me, constitutes a successful flight.

Despite usually excellent service from the flight attendants once aboard, and despite that the Virgin brand gets my loyalty dollars in the US (VX) and to/from Heathrow, Virgin Atlantic may as well be United, American, or Delta, IMHO.
I've sat in both Premium Economy and Upper Class. I definitely don't think that Upper Class is worth the cost. The lay-flat beds aren't that comfortable, and it's super weird to sit at an angle to the aisle. I also can't believe that they're still showing an antiquated cartoon as their in-flight safety video - it literally looks like they did it in the original South Park episodes - FROM 1997!
I also just tried to check-in online for a flight and couldn't. I then called VA, only to be told that because I have five flights in my itinerary, the system can't/won't handle online check-in. HUH? When I asked why, the customer service agent said that it's just the limitation of the system and that most airlines probably have this.
Um, no, in fact they don't. I just came from a trip with eight flights across five countries and checked in just fine.

Worst airline experience in my life, terrible customer service (they even hung up on me while I was talking to them).
If you have connected flights, or you are constraint by time and need to leave around the time you are booking the flight, skip. If you want to be treated like a person and not like a bag of trash, skip as well.
Booked a round trip flight from SFO to LHR. The return flight was supposed to leave from LHR at 3:20 pm. I get an email from Virgin saying that they are moving my flight 3 hours, to 12:20 pm instead. It is impossible for me to be at the airport at that time, so I call them to cancel the flight since they changed the time so much.
They tell me that they don't need to take any responsibility if they change flights for less than 5 hours. Their options are to cancel the flight but I get no refund (apart from some taxes) and that they move my flight to the next time but I need to cover the fare difference (which is $300).

My wife and I just flew Economy on Virgin Atlantic to and from London Heathrow, and it was fantastic! Above all, the service was outstanding, the personnel treating the Economy passengers just like "upper class" passengers, and the food was free, served often, and really tasty and of excellent quality, and free wine/beer/liquor throughout the flights! It felt better than Business Class on United or other US airlines. The seats were reasonably comfortable ($20 extra for legroom/exit row). All the flight attendants were attentive and wore smiles. Highly recommended.
