The free baggage allowance for checked baggage is defined by the piece concept. The free baggage allowances included in the ticket price vary, depending on the fare and service class booked and the destination.Overview of fare conditions »
For children under 2 years of age (infants) the baggage allowance is one bag weighing up to 23 kg, regardless of the service class. Children aged between 2 and 11 years have the same baggage allowances as adults.
Except in JustFly: no checked baggage is included in this fare category but can be added to your booking here » or by calling our Service Center » up to 4 hours prior to departure. You can, of course, transport buggies/pushchairs, child car seats and carry cots for children under 12 years at no extra charge.

If one of your flights is operated by one of airberlin's airline partners, the hand baggage allowance is subject to the terms and conditions of that particular airline.
We recommend that passengers carry valuables, medication, perishable or fragile items in their cabin baggage. The information concerning limitation of liability as detailed in the booking confirmation also applies. In addition please refer to our General terms and conditions of business »

Unfortunately Air Berlin has gone broke, but they are still flying. I was a bit apprehensive because of the insolvency and the bad performance earlier this year, but despite the situation it was great: very punctual - even half an hour earlier on the inbound flight, nice crew and comfortable planes. Since MünsterOsnabrück is a small airport, one is at the gate within 5 mins of entering the building and boarding is very quick. On both flights we had an Air Berlin plane, a Niki flightnumber and a TUIfly crew. B737 showed its age but was fine. Paid 7 euros for a currywurst.

| Berlin to Geneva via Dusseldorf. Not a good first impression. First segment no order to boarding process just one long line regardless if your seat assignment. Delayed 30 minutes announced 10 minutes before scheduled boarding time. No explanation why. Onboard, the least amount of legroom I have ever experienced. Take off was finally one hour later. Second flight delayed 35 minutes to late arrival of the aircraft.

Helsinki to Berlin return. the terminal in Berlin looks like an abandoned warehouse. The Boeing 737 had the A320 safety sheet. The seats were leather, and quite worn out. The flight left TXL on time. I am an Emerald member on one world however they did not recognise me on this flight nor the departing flight (no greeting, benefit, drinks, nothing). They charge 2.5 Euros for a cup of tea and the inflight entertainment via wifi must be purchased. Not recommended as they are pricier than budget airlines.

Bonn to Prague via Berlin. Absolutely bad experience. I bought flight at 5pm from Berlin and instead they put me on flight at 9pm. Nobody was able to explain me why. After staying in line for almost an hour to actually talk with someone they tell me that I have flight for today so they don't understand why is my problem - if they would tell me up front that the flight at 5pm will not happen I would fly directly from Bonn to Prague at 7 pm. These people are cheating their customers.

Berlin to Prague. Worst experience I’ve had for a while! They announce 2 hour delay, then no info until we understand that once they have a plane they must wait for a new crew. Very bad organisation and communication. Definitely avoid if you can, lost my time and couldn’t make my meetings.

Milan to New York return via Dusseldorf. I had a very positive experience with AirBerlin - on all four of our flights. The prices were phenomenal - all four of us flew economy roundtrip for less $2,200 - although they did charge me quite a bit for seat reservations - with 2 small kids, you can't really make a good case for 'oh honey sorry you get to sit to that stranger." Everything ran on time. The seats are as about tight as most US airlines - though not as bad as United's back rows. But we fit fine, video was working (with lots of options for watching), food was ok-ishand the attendants were quite helpful and very nice. Really, I have no complaints.

Düsseldorf to Catania via Rome. Booked Alitalia, got Air Berlin. I was prepared for delays and even cancellations, because of the insolvency of Air Berlin. And indeed: our original inbound flight from Catania tot Düsseldorf with a change in Milan was cancelled, but within 10 minutes we were moved to the direct AB-flight CTA-DUS. Even better. So we had two punctual flights, with a friendly crew and reasonably priced drinks. Leg room was awful however. I like the small route screens on Air Berlin aircraft. But it's all over since Air Berlin stops flying in a few days, so no recommendation. Pity, because Air Berlin was one of my favourite airlines. Never had any problems.

I don't know what marketing company Air Berlin pays to write positive reviews. But Air Berlin's actual service is awful, probably the worst airline around. They never answer phone calls, but leave customers hanging indefinitely. In several other metrics they also have terrible service. New York State AG should pull their license for fraudulent claims.

Not sure whats up with all the negative reviews below on this airline, its normal these days, its much better then AA . I was pleasantly surprised for first time flying it (never heard of it lol). I really liked the direct flight LAX - DUS for normal money, I will take it, u dont see to many direct flights that direction anymore. Food was normal. Staff was normal. Seating was okay. Amenities good. flight Time was great. Huge normal transatlantic plane 2-4-2 seating.

I had a very comfortable flight across the Atlantic with Air Berlin. Lots of films and programmes to choose from on the TV screen in front of me and free drinks. When I landed in Germany I did not want to get off.

Worst (non-existent customer service) when something goes wrong.
Absolutely horrible. Lost bags for 2 days mid-winter. Was told to buy essentials and I would be reimbursed. Horrible, tedious process for submitting expenses (has to be with online form...not with staff at airport or regular mail). Weeks later got a voucher for future travel for half the amount of my expenditures. Any voucher in any amount is unacceptable to me since it doesn't pay for my real expenses. Also - I live in Dallas, a city Air Berlin does not serve.
Have followed up several times and they just ignore my correspondence.

Boeing 737 Rhodos-Munich. Worst, bizarre flight experience of my life. Extremely rude flight attendant forbade us to use the completely empty bin over our seats for no good reason and made us move our bags to a bin somewhere else which was already partly occupied. I had paid extra for a seat reservation for my pregnant wife and myself ahead of time through the Air Berlin website, which the flight attendant refused to honour. He wanted us to move to other seats, which I politely declined. He then yelled at us and ridiculed my pregnant wife in front of everybody else for being "too sensitive" about her pregnancy. I sent a complaint through the Air Berlin website, and all I received was a completely generic e-mail "thanking" me for "my comments"!

FRA-VIE-TXL, Professional airlines, they used to be cheaper, service is good but crew are cold and unsmiling, maybe it's the culture! flights on time, service is minimal... planes are new and fresh, would fly them again if the price is right!

Check-in was smooth and upon request we were directed to the lounge. We had very heavy luggage but they didn't say a word.
We had the middle seats, the 'honeymoon suite'and it is very intimate so I would AVOID these seats if you are traveling alone. Seats are very narrow. There was a menu with lots of choices, a headset hanging, a decent amenity kit, a glass of water, and the flight attendants were offering juice, hot towels and hanging up jackets. The crew couldn't have been more welcoming. The video screen is fairly far away but a good size. There is no room between seats for arms. The total width of both armrests together is about four inches so my companion and I, while very comfortable with intimacy, were shoving each other's elbows for the whole flight.
About two and a half hours in, lunch was served. Food was very good as was service. During the flight I needed to get in and out a few times, and that proved difficult. The entranceway was extremely tight and only by hoisting myself up and swiveling legs left could I get out of the seat. This business class is NOT for those that are large in any direction. You'd be miserable.
